Historic Smithfield Plantation offers a special class entitled "The Preston's Uninvited Guests" on Thursday, June 6th at the Smithfield Pavilion.
The class will discuss the insect pest of colonial times and that would have been at Smithfield in the 1770's and their attempts at pest control. Human, crop and home pests will be discussed and will involve some field work to identify pests from this time period.
The class will be led by retired lab specialist from the Virginia Tech Department of Entomology Mary Rhoades.
The class fee is $5 per registrant and all proceeds will help with the upkeep of Smithfield. To register, call 540-231-3947 or e-mail adanner@smithfieldplantation.org.
