Description:
The Jacksonville Center for the Arts offers the three day class Thinking About the Box Collage with Nancy Stark from November 8-10th meeting from 9am-5pm daily.

Class Description:
This class is an introduction to mixed media assemblage artwork. Participants will be asked to provide found objects and treasures to use in creation of their own unique art.

Class Structure: First Class- Allow 3 hours in the evening 6-9, may be done sooner, Set up workspace and supplies, Short talk to introduce myself and the goals for the class, Demo gessoing the boxes and adding texture, Participants gesso their boxes. Second Class- 9-4 with a break for lunch, Demo painting box and talk about division of space, etc, Participants paint boxes, Short talk about composition, Demo layout of stuff and discuss thought process, Participants work on their layout, Demo and discuss methods of attaching stuff, layering, Rest of class spent on individual feedback on creations as the participants work. Third Class- 10-12, may take longer, Seal projects, clean up and have group show and critique.

Supply List:
• Cradle Board Box – recommend at least 2 per participant
• Acrylic paints - whatever you usually work with. I use Golden Fluid Acrylics.
• Old credit cards, scraps of matboard, paint scrapers to apply the gesso. I use Utrecht Professional Grade Gesso.
• Stuff to add texture to the gesso e.g. bottle caps, sticks, stamps, bubble wrap, scrapers, etc
• Paint brushes – whatever you use
• Treasures/Stuff to add to your box e.g. old photos, sheet music, string, wire, buttons, collage papers, small parts of paintings you have done, paper memorabilia from travels, postcards, letters, found objects and anything else you can imagine.
• Supplies to attach your stuff – YES glue, mat and/or gloss medium, screws and nails.
• Water container
• Alcohol
• Squirt bottles
• Sand paper
• Paper towels
• Brayer
