The Jacksonville Center for the Arts offers the Crazy Victorian Quilt Christmas Stockings two-day class with instructor Susan Brittingham on Friday, September 20th and Saturday, September 21st meeting from 12-5 pm daily.
Class Description:
Crazy Quilting was all the rage in the Victorian Era. Now it’s back! Learn to do Crazy patchwork and create an elegant Christmas Stocking. Then decorate your seams with trims and fancy stitching by machine. Learn how to line the stocking to complete a gorgeous heirloom to hang by the chimney with care. Techniques: crazy patchwork piecing, applique, sewing with decorative stitches, lining and optional piping.
Supply List:
Fabrics and Trims: All types of fabrics and trims in colors that say Christmas to you. Fabrics for the patchwork may be fat quarters or smaller. You may use decorative cotton fabrics, or shiny fancy fabrics. Trims might include ribbons, all sorts of laces and beads.
Additional fabrics: ½ yard muslin, ½ yard of decorative fabric for the back of the stocking, 1 yard for the lining.
1-1/2 yds of piping to match your stocking is optional.
3/4 yd Tear-Away Stabilizer
Threads: sewing threads and decorative threads,
(optional) bobbin thread
Basic sewing supplies: Sewing machine (with accessories), pins, scissors, ruler, iron and ironing surface, seam ripper
