Description:
The Jacksonville Center for the Arts offers the class Introduction to Precious Metal Clay with instructor Annie Armistead on Saturday, September 7th.

Class Description:
Craft jewelry of your own design from Fine Silver Precious Metals Clay (PMC)! Using stamps and shaping tools, learn to form and texture this malleable material. In this workshop, beginners will learn all the basics of working with precious metal clay. Forming, surface texturing, firing and finishing techniques will be covered. Students have the opportunity to complete a pendant with bail or a pair of earrings. The class fee includes use of all studio tools and 9 grams PMC3.

Since the size of each individual project varies, extra clay will be available for purchase during the workshop. PMC was developed in Japan in the early 1990s by the Mitsubishi Corporation. This exciting material is soft, malleable and nontoxic. It consists of tiny particles of precious metal mixed with an organic binder and water. It can be stamped, textured, rolled, carved and manipulated like any other type of clay. After sculpting, the clay is left to dry (the water evaporates) then is fired, burning off the binder, leaving only the fine silver (999fs).

Materials Fee: $35
Minimum Enrollment, 3: Maximum Enrollment, 6
Minimum Age: Responsible Young Adult
