The Newman Library at Virginia Tech is hosting Appalanche, An Avalanche of Appalachian Culture event on April 17th from 5-7 pm in the Library Cafe (the old Library entrance across from the University Bookstore) and on the plaza between the Library and the University Bookstore.
Celebrate Appalachian culture through displays, music, dancing, food, and more. There will be live music and a square dance outside (weather permitting). Come jam, dance or both!
Special Collections will host a display of selected local collections in their Reading Room on the first floor including some of Earl Palmer's photographs of the Appalachian region. Members of our Technical Services department will display and demonstrate quilting techniques.
The Study Café will have old time music and square dancing. Examples of Appalachian food will be served, including pinto beans, greens, and corn bread. We will also have slide shows of natural history and digital collections.
The event is co-sponsored by Appalachian Studies and University Libraries.
