The Radford Heritage Foundation and the Radford Sesquicentennial Committee are pleased to announce they will host a lecture on Civil War medicine given by dermatologist Dr. Daniel Hurd in the Meeting Room of the Radford Public Library on Thursday, April 18, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.
In his talk, “Pus, Pruritus & The Call of Duty,” Dr. Hurd will discuss the state of medical care in the 1860s, speaking on the most common skin diseases encountered by the troops and reported during the war and the impact that these diseases made on the outcome of the war.
Dr. Daniel Hurd is a board certified Dermatologist and President/CEO of New River Dermatology and New River Aesthetics. He has been in private practice since 1999. A Marshall University graduate, Dr. Hurd went on to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine where he graduated with high honors. Dr. Hurd completed his internship in Internal Medicine and his Residency in Dermatology at Ohio University.
Dr. Hurd has authored numerous scientific articles, and lectures and trains physicians all over the United States. He is past president of the West Virginia Dermatology Society and is currently the Dermatology Program Director and Discipline Chair for the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is also an Associate Clinical Professor at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Assistant Clinical Professor at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and Assistant Clinical Professor at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
