Description:
The Fourth Annual 2013 Native American Heritage Festival is returning to Bisset Park on Saturday, April 13th from 11 am until 6:30 pm.
Enjoy Native American dancing in full regalia and with host drums, weapons and lifestyle demonstrations, craft vendors, music and food.
The grand entry procession will begin at noon and will feature many tribal affiliations, head dancers, elders and children. Master of Ceremonies, John Jeffries, will direct the activities in the arena and will explain the symbolism, protocol and spiritual meanings of the dances, regalia and drums to the spectators.
The Host Drum will be conducted by The Red Fire Singers from Pulaski and there will be a $250 Luck of the Draw for all dancers in full regalia.
The Host Drum of the pow-wow is a drum group primarily responsible for providing music for the dancers to dance to.
World renowned fiddle player and Celtic Fusion recording artist Arvel Bird will provide special performances throughout the day with performance currently scheduled for 2 and 5 pm.
Arvel Bird, a violinist and Native American flutist, is known around the world for his dramatic connection between Celtic and Native American traditions, stirring up scenes that echo from North American memory. Dubbed “Lord of the Strings” by fans and music critics, his music evokes the soul of North American history and is thoroughly entertaining, but also enlightening and humanizing.
In a language and experience that captures the hearts of all audiences, he’s emotional without being condescending, intellectual without being pretentious. One measure of any art form is when the medium is so mastered that it becomes transparent, allowing its message to be seen, heard and felt. Arvel Bird has achieved that mastery.

The festival will be held a rain or shine. Everyone is encouraged to bring chairs and blankets.
Bisset Park is a natural backdrop for this event because when it was being excavated, Native American artifacts were found that dated back some 400-plus years.
