The Virginia Tech Newman Library continues their Research on the Edge speaker series with Professor Young Cao and his talk: "Data Intensive Computing and Visualization – Challenges presenting images, videos, graphs and more" on Thursday, February 28th in library's first floor study cafe.

In this talk, he will describe the technical challenges and solutions for visualizing and analyzing massive datasets, including images, videos, volumetric data, geometry data, and graphs. The focus will be on the research of parallel algorithm design on many-core architectures, especially GPGPUs.

Yong Cao is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Virginia Tech. He has worked at a leading video game company, Electronic Arts, before joined Virginia Tech in 2007. Dr. Cao is the Director of the Graphics and Visualization Lab at Virginia Tech, which focuses on the research of high performance visualization and simulation, parallel computing on many-core architecture, character animation, and video game based learning.

Afternoon tea and other refreshments will be provided.

Research on the edge is a speaker series focused on interdisciplinary research and innovation, inspired by the Black Swan talks, and is a collaboration between the University Libraries and the Office of Undergraduate Research. With speakers from ICTAS, ICAT, and the University Libraries, we intend to create space for engaging conversations about "research at the boundaries" and how we promote innovation at these boundaries.
