Description:
The Draper Mercantile presents a special concert from Dori Freeman with David Long on Saturday, February 16th. Dinner available starting at 6 pm and the show starts at 7 pm.

Dori Freeman, now twenty years old, is a musician native to Southwestern Virginia. She’s been singing for as long as she can recall and took up quickly with the guitar at fifteen. Dori’s influences span a varied and unique list of musicians including: Peggy Lee, Jackson Browne, Iris DeMent, Rufus Wainwright, and many others. Perhaps one of her greatest influences is the traditional music of the Appalachian Mountains and the Southeast that she grew up listening to. Dori was raised in a family deeply rooted in the creative tradition and culture of the Blue Ridge. Her father, Scott Freeman, is a musician and music instructor and her grandfather is pencil artist and musician Willard Gayheart.

On her debut album, Porchlight, Dori effortlessly blends each of these styles together, pairing jazz and swing tunes with traditional and acoustic instrumentation to create a kind of sound all her own. Shy to admit it herself, Dori is also a burgeoning and gifted songwriter.
