Description:
Gillie's welcomes back Toy Soldiers and The Kalob Griffin Band for the Gillie's Late Night Show on Friday, February 8th.
Toy Soldiers was born in the fall of 2007 as a duo between Ron Gallo and drummer Mike Baurer. The release of their first album “Whisper Down the Lane”, described as a “gritty, dirty collection of liquor-fueled Americana music.
Shifting flawlessly from roots, to blues, to country, to rockabilly…an undeniable barn-burner” marked the beginning of the “big-band era” of Toy Soldiers, which Gallo was joined by upwards of 11 members at times. In the fall of 2010, inspired by a disastrous tour, Gallo stepped back and reformed the band to a solid core lineup consisting of Lancaster, PA based musicians Dominic Billett (Drums), Matt Kelly (Guitar), Bill McCloskey (Bass) and Luke Leidy (Keys).
Since then, the band was nominated in three categories and won an Independent Music Award for their song “Throw Me Down”, toured behind and released a brand new EP titled “Get Through the Time”, and recorded a split EP in Nashville with good friend and songwriter Jordan Hull to be released in 2011.

In the summer of 2012, the Kalob Griffin Band is independently releasing their debut album, “June Found a Gun” off of their label, There He is Records. After forming at Penn State in 2009 and undergoing various personnel changes, the Americana rockers released a self-titled EP in the spring of 2010 and have since been continuously touring and developing an active, engaging fan base that has turned into more of a family.
Kalob Griffin (vocals/guitar), Rob Dwyer (guitar/mandolin/banjo), Eric Lawry (drums/vocals), John Hildenbrand (keyboards/vocals), and Nick Salcido (electric/upright bass) compose this troop of musicians who come together to create a sound and live show that some would say is immediately original, familiar, and contagious.
Original and familiar? Take a John Prine lyric, an Avett Brothers harmony, a Neil Young guitar solo, and an Allman Brothers concert, then mix and mash to your hearts desire to hear what KGB is all about.
