Description:
The Virginia Tech Department of Recreational Sports will host the 3rd Annual Gymnastics Open House on Saturday, January 26th along with local sponsor Hethwood Market. The event is free and open to children of all experience levels.

The overall focus of the third annual Gymnastics Open House is to inform families in the community about the classes that Recreational Sports offers in a fun, and interactive way. Sponsor, Hethwood Market will also be providing complimentary snacks and samples for all participants and their parents.

The lessons will be held at War Memorial Hall in the Gymnastics Room on the first floor and will feature three sessions.

Session I is the Tumble Tots session and is the perfect motor-skill building class for 2-and-3-year olds. Mats, beams, trampolines, and obstacles are used to help with little ones’ coordination. Check-in starts at 10 a.m., session runs 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Session II is the Tumble Foundation session and is designed for children ages 4 to 6. The goal is to improve flexibility, balance, and overall coordination. The basics of gymnastics will be taught using floor, vault, bars, beam, and trampoline. Check-in starts at 11 a.m., session runs 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Session III will include the Tumble Basics and Tumble Advanced classes. Tumble Basics is designed for 7-year-olds and above, including intermediate gymnasts. The foundations of gymnastics will be built upon. Tumble Advanced represents students who have surpassed the intermediate level. Strength and proper technique are the goals for this session. Check-in starts at 12 p.m., sessions run 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Parents are requested to stay for the duration of their child’s participation. Parents of children in the Session I Tumble Tots class must stay for the duration of the lesson.
