Description:
Join the Montgomery County Recreation Department for their Basic Pistol/NRA Certification. Participants must be 18 or older.
Co-sponsored by the Shawnee Shooting Sports Club (SSSC), the National Rifle Association (NRA) Basic Pistol Course introduces students to the knowledge,skills, and attitude necessary for owning and shooting a pistol safely.
Through this course, students will learn about pistol parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety, pistol shooting fundamentals, and pistol shooting activities.
The Basic Course will also help prepare the student for participation in other NRA courses. Students will spend six hours in the MCAC classroom (three hours each on Friday evening and
Saturday morning) and at least three hours on the SSSC’s range on Saturday afternoon. The SSSC will provide safety equipment, firearms and ammunition for the course.
Students will be allowed to bring personal firearms to the range for practice after the course range exercise is completed. The course meets the training requirement for the Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit.
Class Schedule: 6:30-9:30 p.m.
The class will also meet on Saturday, May 4. Class Schedule: Classroom - 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Range - 12-4 p.m.
Minimum participants - 6; maximum - 20. Registration deadline two weeks prior to class. The cost for the class is $75.
