The Science Museum of Western Virginia in collaboration with Virginia Tech's Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) present the student exhibits from the "Better World by Design" Teen Challenge on Saturday, February 9th.

Explore the design process, see how today’s teens envision their “better world,” and consider your own better world. The Design Fair is a series of interactive exhibits designed and developed by local eighth graders for the Science Museum of Western Virginia.

Students from Glenvar Middle School in Roanoke County have created engaging museum experiences, which showcase ideas to improve their communities and also integrate ideas from the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines. The work will be on display at the Science Museum of Western Virginia.

Virginia Tech's Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology’s IDEAS Studio assisted with the progress of the projects, working closely with approximately 50 students, who were encouraged to identify problems within their community, explore potential solutions, and design meaningful ways to share this work with a public audience, crafting a compelling user experience.

Teams of students worked together to created 12 exhibitions featuring their creations, which include an anti-bullying robot, a solar car, a rooftop garden, and a secure medicine dispenser. Visitors to the museum will also have an opportunity to craft their own creations.

The Science Museum of Western Virginia is located on the upper level of Tanglewood Mall in Roanoke, Virginia.
