Description:
Glencoe Museum is pleased to announce that it will host its Holiday Open House on Thursday, December 14, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The museum, which occupies the 1870 home of General Wharton and his wife Anne Rebecca, daughter of the city’s namesake Dr. John Blair Radford, will be done up in true holiday style.

Everyone is welcome to attend this event to celebrate the holidays with good cheer. There will be music, costumed interpreters and sweet treats.

The museum features beautifully appointed historic rooms that illustrate life in the last decades of the 19th century. There are also history exhibits touching on topics in Radford’s history, including the story of Mary Draper Ingles and how the Civil War came to Radford. In addition to all this, there is an art gallery as well.

Currently, Glencoe Museum has the stunning works of acclaimed artist Ken Smith. His paintings bring history to life in works that capture in intricate detail individuals who have played important roles in the past. Smith’s military paintings have been used in exhibits and publications around the world. In the artist’s own words:

“My paintings show these individuals in a very up close and personal way, always seeking to show a vision of the world in which these people lived – and sometimes died – with a portrayal that is both authentic and heroic.”
