The Blacksburg Community Band invites you to join the band, the Blacksburg Community Strings, the Blacksburg Children’s Chorale, and guest vocalists for traditional, popular, and novel holiday music in Virginia Tech's Commonwealth Ballroom located in the Squires Student Center on Sunday, December 16, 4 pm.
The event is free, open to the public, and appropriate for all ages. Join the performers for a reception after the concert.
Musical numbers include Leroy Anderson’s seasonal favorite, Sleigh Ride, A Chanukah Celebration (Bobrowitz & Soper), and medleys of familiar tunes. Several arrangements are by John Howell, a member of the music faculty at Virginia Tech, and also of the Blacksburg Community Band and the Blacksburg Community Strings. Audience participation is encouraged during his new 2012 arrangement, Community Band Sing-Along.
The Blacksburg Community Band is an all-volunteer community organization formed in 1989 under the auspices of the Town of Blacksburg, Department of Parks and Recreation. The ensemble performs in an average of 25 concerts each year throughout the New River Valley, reaching over 7,000 people.
