The Blacksburg Library presents "Sleigh Bells Ring! Come and Listen! a special program devoted to sleigh bells and sleighing in America on Monday, December 3rd.

Did you know Jingle Bells was originally written as a Thanksgiving song? Did you know you can still go to "Grandfather’s House" as mentioned in the 1844 poem Over the River and Through the Woods? Did you know there are still laws requiring the use of sleigh bells in some places? Do you know what "bells on bob-tails ring" means?

Learn about the history and romance of sleigh bells and sleighing in America as Blacksburg resident Karen Stoll teaches ‘sleigh bell basics.’ See and hear her collection of real antique sleigh bells and discover how they were made and used. Listen to familiar songs, poems, and stories about sleigh bells and sleighing as you learn the history behind them.
