Description:
Author Michael Abraham from Blacksburg will be speaking about his most recent book, Harmonic Highways: Exploring Virginia’s Crooked Road.

This book is a celebration of the history, music, and culture of Southwest Virginia. Boasting arguably the nation’s densest concentration of musical talent, Southwest Virginia has in recent years attracted followers of traditional Appalachian music from around the world.

Much of the current popularity stems from the 2004 initiative of the Virginia State Legislature to designate a series of roads through the region the Virginia Heritage Music Trail, with the nickname, The Crooked Road.

In Harmonic Highways, author Michael Abraham takes the reader on a fascinating and poignant journey, combining aspects of music, musicians, instrument builders, promoters, athletes, artists, and everyday people with compelling descriptions of the landscape and deeper culture. He also entices the reader with vivid descriptions of motorcycles and the motorcycling experience.

Abraham will be discussing the research and writing process and will read from the book.

Michael Abraham was born and raised in Southwest Virginia. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and has had a varied career in engineering, sales, marketing, and business management. He has written for Blue Ridge Country magazine, Greenbrier Quarterly magazine, Motorcycle Cruiser magazine, Mountain Peeks magazine, WVTF Public Radio, The News Messenger, and The Roanoke Times.
