Description:
Join Radford City and Bisset Park for the 2012 Native American Heritage Festival on Friday, April 13th and Saturday, April 14th. The festival will include Native American dancing, crafts, demonstrations, food and more.
At noon, there will be a grand entry procession of many tribal affiliations, head dancers, elders and children. Master of Ceremonies, Lowery Begay, will direct the activities in the arena and will explain the symbolism, protocol and spiritual meanings of the dances, regalia and drums to the spectators.
Additionally, the Host Drum will be conducted by The Red Fire Singers from Pulaski and there will be a $250 Luck of the Draw on Saturday for all dancers in full regalia.
The Host Drum of the pow-wow is a drum group primarily responsible for providing music for the dancers to dance to.
Traditional traders and crafters will be on hand with authentic arts and crafts reflecting the cultural heritage of the different tribes of Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland.
The festival will be held a rain or shine. Everyone is encouraged to bring chairs and blankets.
