Description:
The Wilderness Road Chorus of Sweet Adelines is offering women a free lesson in singing a cappella barbershop harmony on Saturday, March 3, at 10:00 a.m. at the Christiansburg Library, 125 Sheltman Street. The lesson will be provided by Cheri Danner, director of Virginia Coast Chorus in Norfolk and a recognized authority in Sweet Adeline singing.
Lavelva Stevens, Director of the Wilderness Road Chorus since 2001, also will be teaching at the event.
Sweet Adelines is an international organization of women who are preserving the barbershop style by entertaining at events in their communities. Barbershop harmony has four parts. The lead is the voice that usually is the melody, the tenor is a light harmony part sung above the lead, the baritone is a harmony part that courses below the lead, and the bass is a rich mellow part singing the lowest notes of the chord. It is sung a cappella. When all four notes are sung just right, the audience hears the overtone ringing in the room. This is called "ringing the chord."
