Marc Lamont Hill, host of the nationally syndicated television show "Our World with Black Enterprise," will be the keynote speaker for Radford University's sixth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute.

Hill will speak on the continuing relevance of King's legacy at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 in the auditorium of the Hurlburt Student Center. The free event is open to the public.

A columnist and editor at large for the Philadelphia Daily News, Hill writes and lectures widely about culture, politics and education. He has been published in a number of national journals, magazines, books and anthologies, including The Washington Post, Essence magazine and The New York Times. He provides regular commentary for CNN, MSNBC, National Public Radio and Fox News Channel, where he was formerly a political contributor and regular guest on "The O'Reilly Factor."

"We are pleased to have a scholar and public figure of such stature and prominence as our keynote speaker," said Don Appiarius, Radford's dean of students and associate vice president for student affairs. "We hope the whole community will take advantage of this opportunity to come to campus to hear him speak on Dr. King's legacy."

In 2005, Ebony magazine named Hill one of America's top 30 black leaders under 30 years old. In 2011, Ebony included him among America's 100 most influential black leaders.

Trained as an anthropologist of education, Hill holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on the intersections between culture, politics and education. He has been on the faculty of Columbia University as an associate professor of education since 2009 and holds an affiliated faculty appointment at the university's Institute for Research in African-American Studies.
