Description:
Virginia Tech Union is bringing the Dating Doctor David Coleman, also known as America’s real-life “Hitch,” to the Haymarket Theatre in Squires Student Center on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:00 pm.

Coleman will discuss his program, Making Relationships Matter, which focuses on approaches to getting and giving the most one can out of daily relationships. His website says the program offers tips on forming, repairing, and maintaining meaningful relationships while becoming more courageous, valuable, respectful, thankful, passionate, committed, spiritual, trustworthy, and healthy.

Various topics will be covered, including who controls relationships and why, basic differences between men and women, arousal points for men and women, the attraction factor, how to be more physically and emotionally romantic with others, how to identify healthy and unhealthy relationships, and steps to ensure that all relationships in one’s life matter.

Some people may already be familiar with these ideas through Will Smith’s character in the 2005 film “Hitch.” Many of Coleman’s suggestions and methods are similar to those used by Smith’s character, so much so that Coleman was involved in marketing the film and ultimately earned recognition as a real-life version of the character.

Coleman’s work has also been successful across college campuses. He has been named National Speaker of the Year a total of 13 times by Campus Activities Magazine and the National Association for Campus Activities, which also named him the 2011 National Entertainer of the Year.

Free parking is available in the Squires Lot, located at the corner of College Avenue and Otey Street or the Architecture Annex Lot also on Otey Street. Find more parking information online or call 540-231-3200.
