join Blacksburg Director of Technology, Steve Jones in the Blacksburg Motor Company Building conference room, 400 South Main Street, to view and discuss a two-part webinar from Gig.U. Blacksburg Mayor Ron Rordam will deliver opening remarks prior to the start of the 2 pm presentation.

The webinar consists of two pre-recorded presentations, each followed by a live question and answer period. Session 1, titled Gigabit 101, explains the possibilities that open up when ultra high-speed broadband connections (gigabit internet) are made available to residents, businesses, public service providers, and others.

Session 2, titled Accelerating the deployment of next-generation networks in your city, breaks down the steps that other localities have gone through to speed up the proliferation of gigabit-enabled networks.

Following the conclusion of the webinar, Steve Jones will lead an open discussion of the potential applicability of the Gig.U model in the Blacksburg area. The goal of this presentation is to open up discussion about the potential benefits and merits of bringing gigabit connectivity to the Blacksburg community, and to begin identify potential challenges that may be encountered along the path to innovation. Refreshments will be served.

Gig.U is a group of 37 leading research universities from all over the United States, who are seeking ways to accelerate the deployment of ultra high-speed networks to benefit the universities and their surrounding community.
