Galax’s own bluegrass, traditional, and gospel favorites, Rich in Tradition will appear on stage at the Draper Mercantile & Trading Company on Saturday, October 8, 2011. The performance is part of a new concert series called “Live at the Merc.”

Rich in Tradition came to be in the spring of 2006. A product of one of the most fertile grounds of traditional Bluegrass, Gospel and Old Time Music in the world; the Mt. Airy - Galax areas of Northwest North Carolina and Southwest Virginia.

These guys cut their musical teeth here playing with some of the music's best and greatest - Jim Eanes, Shenandoah Valley Boys, The Easter Bros., James King, Roy McMillian, David Parmley, Cullen Galyean just to name a few.

Rich in Tradition combines a century of rich bluegrass and gospel music experience to make available some of the best picking and singing around.

From pure Gospel, to traditional and contemporary Bluegrass, to their own original songs, "Rich in Tradition" covers the bases with precision picking, great Harmony singing, and professional presentation.

“Live at the Merc” intends to bring quality music to the region at a reasonable price. The series was inspired by a collaboration between Debbie Gardner, owner of the Mercantile, and Jim Lloyd, a musician who has been actively involved in the Southwest Virginia music scene for nearly 30 years as a performer, teacher, and advocate.

Doors open at 7 pm. Come early, seating is limited. The show begins at 7:30 pm.
