The Last Mountain,” a documentary about the controversial coal-mining method of mountaintop removal, will launch the 2011 sustainABILITY Movie Series on Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. in the Bonnie Auditorium.
An official selection of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, “The Last Mountain” explores the environmental, social and health consequences of mountaintop removal in Coal River Valley, W.Va., and the efforts of a small but passionate group of citizens to stop it. Written, directed and produced by award-winning documentary filmmaker Bill Haney, “The Last Mountain” is a study of America’s struggle to balance its energy needs with environmental concerns.
All screenings are open to the public and admission is free.
