Blacksburg poet Brian Walters will read selections and talk about his book Watie’s Surrender and Other Civil War Narratives. The title poem is about Stand Watie, the Confederate Brigadier General and leader of the CSA Cherokee Cavalry. Other poems include “Lee’s Decision” which poetically considers how Lee might have contemplated his choice of military service, and “Memorial Day 1868” which urges forgiveness and “to put aside hardfistedness.” Books will be available for purchase.
