Description:
Heather Raffo, author and actress of the award winning one-woman show “9 Parts of Desire,” teams up with Amir ElSaffar, accomplished jazz trumpeter and Iraqi santoor player, Syrian vocalist Gaida, percussionist Johnny Farraj, and oud player Hadi Eldebek for a dramatic evening of spoken word and melodic solos.

Using characters from Raffo’s show in a format akin to slam poetry, the actress and musicians join together to present a concert of urban and classical sounds that spring from both Iraqi and American roots.

This performance is co-presented with the Virginia Tech Dean’s Advisory Committee for International Initiatives and the School of Performing Arts and Cinema.

Advance reservations are available by calling 540-808-6504 (a message may be left after regular business hours) or by sending an email. Tickets will be held at the School of Performing Arts and Cinema's ticket office, located on the first floor of Squires Student Center, until 10 minutes before each performance.

Seating is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Tickets also will be available at the door beginning one hour prior to each performance.
