The Arc of the New River Valley presents The Arc of the New River Valley's Community Pool Party on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the Blacksburg Aquatic Center. This is a Community Pool Party which is free and open to everyone, people with and without disabilities, kids, and those young at heart. All children must be accompanied by a chaperone, no drop offs please. Come make some friends, eat some snacks and get wet with us as we start to say goodbye to summer. Don't forget to bring your towels. We hope you can join us for an evening of fun! The Arc promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes. We are people with disabilities, family members of people with disabilities, teachers and students in our local school systems, university professionals, doctors, accountants, consultants, community activists. We hold a vision that people with disabilities in southwest Virginia will be active members of our communities and will have the support they need to live the lives they choose. We know that in Virginia people with disabilities who want to live in the community may need help and a microboard can help them. A microboard provides respectful, person centered support for individuals and their families. The most important first step toward establishing a microboard for a person is helping the person to have a strong circle of friends.
