Blacksburg Wine Lab presents Spirits Education: Mezcal Edition on Sunday, March 7, 2021. Ever had tequilas smoky second cousin, Mezcal? We love the liquor as much as we worship the wines, and thus are launching a monthly Spirits Education Lecture/Tasting session, and for this initial offering we have secured Mezcal Master, River Hawkins. He is the owner of The Bebedero, Virginia’s only mezcaleria, which boasts the largest selection of mezcal and tequila in the state, and he will be joining us at the Blacksburg Wine Lab for an educational mezcal tasting class. River has been educating people on the rich history and complex flavor of agave distillates for over six years now, both in Mexico and the US. He’s given hundreds of tasting classes through his restaurant and for private events. His love of all things agave is obvious in his passionate work to bring these rare spirits to the people of Virginia. Join us for a one night only tasting event on Sunday March 7 at 4PM featuring a handpicked selection of River’s favorite tequila (3 styles) and mezcal (3-4 styles), along with a variety of delicious mezcal-paired snacks. As we taste, River will guide us through the fascinating history, cultural relevance and unique processes of agave distillates.
