Japanese Cultural Association at Virginia Tech's Matsuri Festival 2019:

Date: November 16, 2019
Time: 12:00 - 4:00 PM
Venue: Graduate Life Center Lawn
Organizations: Japanese Cultural Association at Virginia Tech
Description: The Japanese Cultural Association (JCA) at Virginia Tech presents the Matsuri Festival 2019 on Saturday, November 16, 2019 outside on the Graduate Life Center Lawn on the campus of Virginia Tech.

Matsuri is a Japanese festival typically held annually in order to celebrate deities or events. Every fall, the Japanese Cultural Association (JCA) hosts an annual Matsuri where students, faculty, and families can enjoy and learn about an important piece of Japanese culture.

Various Japanese food will also be served. This year, an iconic Japanese cuisine stable, onigiri, will be served for free along with a hot miso soup to stave off the winter chills. Cultural performances performed by JCA members will be on the Graduate Life Center Lawn stage every hour including a traditional dance, a fusion of modern and traditional dance, a modern J-Pop piece and even a kendo performance!

There will be booths hosting traditional Japanese games such as calligraphy, ring toss and kingyo sukui, a game where players try to "fish out" goldfish with a net made of thin tissue. Real goldfish will not be used for obvious reasons. This is one of the most popular games during a Japanese Matsuri and is beloved by children and adults alike.

Admission is free and includes free food for attendees.

JCA's goal is for everyone to enjoy this event and help us spread the love for Japanese culture.

The Japanese Cultural Association (JCA) is an organization dedicated to those who have an interest in the Japanese culture. We strive to raise awareness as well as appreciation for Japanese culture.

We welcome everyone, regardless of race and whether they have a Japanese background or not.
