Chateau Morrisette presents Sunday Sounds with Beren & Luthien on Sunday, July 28, 2019. Beren & Lúthien are a string-pluckin', drum-thumpin', song-warblin' duo dedicated to passing on old tunes to a new generation. We play Irish traditional tunes, Celtic folk songs, and contemporary songs performed in traditional style. We're proud members of the Irish music community in Roanoke, VA. Josh Kinn (Beren) and Julie Borden (Lúthien) met at the Roanoke, VA traditional Irish session in August 2017. Josh was already a fast-fingered fixture in the group, plucking his bouzouki and belting sea shanties and ballads. Julie was new to town, a singer and bodhran player who’d heard rumors about an Irish music group hiding somewhere in Roanoke. The two began collaborating at the session, working out harmonies and accompaniment for songs that had begun as solos. By summer, they were practicing music outside the session, and, in August 2018, Beren & Lúthien made their first appearance at the Salem, Virginia Green Hill Highland Games.
