The Floyd Center for the Arts presents an Author Talk with Beth Macy and her new book "Dopesick" on Sunday, September 16, 2018.

Beth Macy will speak about her new book, "Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors and the Drug Company that Addicted America", an exploration into the opioid crisis in America and in particular Virginia. Her talk will be followed by a book signing and reception.

Beth Macy is a New York Times-bestselling author of two books, "Factory Man" and "Truevine". Macy’s work as a newspaper reporter, mostly at The Roanoke Times, featured outsiders and underdogs and won more than a dozen awards. Her books reflect a deep respect for the stories of marginalized people and communities, dogged persistence in her research, and a gift for telling complicated stories in a compelling way.

Her work has also been featured in Oprah magazine, PARADE, American Journalism Review, Salon, the Christian Science Monitor and "The Best Newspaper Writing" anthology.

Her forthcoming book, "Dopesick", is a look at the opioid epidemic as it unfolded in three Virginia communities; it will be published in August.
