2018 Memorial Day Service:

Description: The Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery presents their 2018 Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 28, 2018 starting at 9:30 am.

The keynote speaker is Bernard L. Marie and Ruritan National President Guy Cox will provide comments. Bernard Marie is a successful international business man who was a small child in Normandy, France during the D-Day invasion of WWII. The service features a roll call of veterans, 21 gun salute, singing of "America", placing of wreaths, playing of taps and local Boy Scouts and ROTC units will be providing support.

To commemorate Memorial Day, an Avenue of Flags will placed at each cemetery entrance and all gravesites will be graced with an American flag. The administration office will be open from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm to assist veterans and their families with grave site location, general information, and filling out the cemetery pre-application form.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Parking is available at the nearby Lions Club.

The annual Memorial Day Ceremony is possible due to an ongoing partnership between service organizations such as the New River District of Ruritan National, Inc. and the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery Memorial Day Planning Committee volunteers.
