The Kind, a Blacksburg based folk-rock band, is familiar to anyone who has passed through the New River Valley over the last few decades. Formed in 1986, The Kind plays in a variety of styles that ranges from classic rock, R&B, and jazz to bluegrass and country; however, the arena which they most frequently blend their diverse influences is their huge melting pot of Grateful Dead covers.

Over the years, The Kind has been privileged to perform with the likes of Jorma Kaukonen (Jefferson Airplane & Hot Tuna), Rick Danko (The Band), Merle Saunders (The Jerry Garcia Band), and The New Riders of the Purple Sage. The Kind combines strong lead vocals and harmonies together with intertwining melodies and soulful rhythmic grooves to produce a fun, flowing and danceable experience. They are equally at home in a laid-back acoustic setting or a high-energy electric experience.

Flight One, formed in 2016, performs original music and solid covers, bringing crisp blues rock with progressive infused guitar solos. Flight One is a new electric project from Blacksburg Virginia's power acoustic duo, John and Julie (John Fogle & Julie Dameron), adding two members of longtime New River Valley band, Gary & The Brewers, Jason Tice on drums and Chris Rader on bass, also from local band, Ray Jay Johnson.

Fogle brings scorching, uplifting guitar solos with a progressive thoughtfulness seldom seen in the rock world these days, while Julie Dameron's lyrical writing and solid guitar work moves the listener who enjoys depth in their art. With the creative rhythm section of Rader and Tice, each new listener feels the music familiar, yet somehow fresh with each performance.

Beyond the tight structure of the original material, the improvisational jams bring out the best of Fogle and Dameron's long-time guitar partnership with beautiful, complex interplay of melody and lead work, leading to common 10-minute interludes you hope will never end. Fogle has been entertaining the Blacksburg area with his extraordinary guitar talent since the 1980's and the band is comprised of musical veterans, enjoying the discovery of power in this fresh new band, finally ready for the next step.

A project in constant motion, this group is growing together, writing new material weekly, to fill out what will be a busy year sharing passionate, exciting music with a purpose! Rock On!
