Mountain Lake Biological Station (MLBS) presents their 2017 Open House on Saturday, July 15, 2017. Come meet Mountain Lake Biological Station biologists, explore historic facilities and hiking trails, learn first-hand about Station research, and understand how this research advances science and benefits the natural world. Join us for open labs, exhibits, hands-on activities, tours of the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) tower site, nature walks led by MLBS researchers, arts and crafts, open art studios, and more! Admission is free and all are welcome. About the Station: The Mountain Lake Biological Station is a diverse community of scientists, instructors, research interns, students, and artists from around the world who conduct research, take field-based courses, and create art on top of beautiful Salt Pond Mountain. Mountain Lake Biological Station is located at 240 Salt Pond Road in Pembroke, VA. Directions: From Blacksburg, take Rte. 460 past Newport and turn right onto Rte. 700. From Pearisburg, take Rte. 460 past Pembroke and turn left onto Rte. 613. Follow either road up the mountain toward the Mountain Lake Lodge, where the roads merge. Continue onto the Lodge grounds and follow signs toward the “Adventure Center,” passing above the lakebed. The road will turn to gravel. Continue until you reach a fork in the road, and bear right onto Salt Pond Road. At the welcome sign, take the right fork and follow signs to parking.
