The Floyd Center for the Arts (Formerly Jacksonville Center) presents The Floyd Plein Air Festival 2017 starting on Monday, August 14, 2017 through Saturday, August 19, 2017 at locations throughout Floyd, VA. Wednesday events will be held at Chateau Morrisette. The Floyd Plein Air Festival 2017 is a new and exciting event that grew from the success of 2016’s Floyd Plein Air Crush weekend. Expanding to a week-long event, the festival will bring 25 national and regional artists to paint the beauty of the county’s open spaces and favorite places. Spectators are invited to observe, learn and interact with the artists. Wednesday Schedule: • All Day: Open Painting Time for Artists at Chateau Morrisette (Free to Spectators) • 1:00-3:00 pm: Artist Painting Demonstration (Patron Pass required) • 3:00-4:00 pm: Private Wine Tasting with Festival Artists (Patron Pass required) Thomas Bradshaw will provide an Artist Demonstration. Patron Pass holders and event artists are invited to watch this talented artist demonstrate and discusses his plein air techniques. Patron Pass holders and participating artists are also invited to a private tasting featuring Chateau Morrisette wines with light snacks. Patrons are invited to walk the grounds of Chateau Morrisette and visit artists while they are painting throughout the day. Our mission for the festival is to bring visibility and opportunity to the artists, participating venues, and partners, while providing an inspirational, educational, and memorable experience for the patrons attending. It is our hope that the festival will not only be an annual fundraising opportunity for the Floyd Center for the Arts, but also an activity to boost the sustainability of its partner venues and hosts. More than $3,500.00 in prizes will be given away to participating artists! And we are pleased to announce Valerie Craig from St. Davids, Pennsylvania, as our judge for the events. Some portions of the week long festival are ticketed while others are not. All week patron passes for either all-access or standard are available for purchase.
