Description: The Virginia Tech Graduate School presents the Celebrating Families Picnic Lunch with Dr. Laura Sands on Friday, April 28, 2017 on the Virginia Tech Drillfield.

Families and the university community are invited to gather on the lawn between the Graduate School and Squires Student Center at 11:30 am. Graduate School childcare coordinator Marin Riegger and Graduate School staff will welcome the participants and then lead a walk over to the Drillfield.

Families will enjoy games for children of all ages, a special address from Dr. Laura Sands discussing the importance of early childhood education and good childcare, sharing her own experiences as a graduate student with children and socializing with other local families over lunch.

The Graduate School will provide fruit, cookies and drinks. Americorps volunteers will lead games and activities for the children who also will be invited to help create a banner of the baby HokieBird with their handprints depicting tail feathers on the little bird.

The Celebrating Families Picnic Lunch celebrates in particular all Virginia Tech graduate student families as well as all local community families with young children including all Virginia Tech student and faculty families.

The goal of the event is to create awareness for the need for more family programs at Virginia Tech and in the New River Valley.

The event is a bring your own picnic lunch.
