Description: The Jacksonville Center for the Arts presents Jazz and Blues at Jax featuring Shawn Spencer and the Jacksonville Five on Friday, August 26, 2016.

A one-time-only ensemble of local jazz artists dubbed Shawn Spencer and the Jacksonville Five sponsored by WDBJ7 will be performing for a unique musical escapade. Attendees at the “Jazz and Blues at Jax” Concert will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and light fare in an elegant setting. Wine and beer will also be available for an additional charge.

“The Jax and jazz go together, and the blues are one of our favorite colors,” said Jeff Liverman, Executive Director of The Jax. “We are happy to fill the air with classic jazz and blues and support our remarkable local musicians and artists. All are welcome to come and relish this unique, outstanding ensemble.”

The members of the group are: Shawn Spencer, Vocals; Tom Floyd, Piano; Scott Walter, Trumpet; Tom Artwick, Saxophone and Flute; Robbie Vaughan, Drum; and Chris Prokosch, Bass.

Tickets will be $25 and are available at the door or online at http://jacksonvillecenter.org/jazzatjax2016/. Attendees may also purchase tickets in advance by visiting the friendly staff at the front desk of The Jax.

Shawn Spencer is the paramount vocalist for Star City Swag Group, a group based in Roanoke, Virginia, that harkens to a bygone era of classic jazz. Spencer is a native of Franklin County, VA, and has been a lover of music all her life. Drawn to the elegance and sophistication of jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Nancy Wilson, Spencer pays homage, she says, to these Sovereign Sirens and to “a time when every woman was a lady and every man a gentleman.”

The concert fundraiser is sponsored by the news station WDBJ7, "Your Hometown News Leader”.
