Join the Blacksburg Department of Parks and Rec for the Wonders of the Underworld: Intro to Caving on Saturday, August 6, 2016 meeting at the Blacksburg Community Center. Push, pull, crawl, squeeze and squirm your way through breathtaking passages and experience one of only two places on earth with total darkness. View unique cave formations such as: stalactites, stalagmites, soda straws, cave gold, and flow stones and even an underground waterfall! Your trip will begin with a quick review on what to expect inside and how to travel safely as a group. No experience is needed. For ages 11 and up. Instruction, equipment and transportation included. Registration deadline is Wednesday before the course by 5 pm. Wear old clothes to cave in and bring a trash bag for dirty clothes and a change of clothes for after caving, Bring a Lunch and 1 liter of water, 3 AAA batteries per person, and snacks in a small back pack to carry in the cave. All caving is in accordance to the Caving Protocols in Response to White-Nose Syndrome in Virginia.
