Description: |
The Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts presents OperaCraft at the Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech with performances on Thursday, December 3, 2015 and Friday, December 4, 2015 at 7:30 pm and on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 2 pm. OPERAcraft engages K-12 students in the creation and performance of a fully produced virtual opera. Starting with music borrowed from classic operas and a specific number of characters, the students build a story and libretto; create the virtual set and character avatars using a custom version of the Minecraft video game; then control the avatars as performers within that virtual world, including body gestures and lip-syncing with real singing soloists. The interactive set will be projected on a scrim while Virginia Tech music majors sing the finalized score and the K-12 students control the character avatars.
