The Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech presents the United States Marine Band in concert on Thursday, September 17, 2015. Established in 1798 by an Act of Congress, the United States Marine Band is America's oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Since making its White House debut on New Year's Day, 1801, the band has performed at the inauguration of every president since Thomas Jefferson, who is credited with giving the band the title, "The President's Own." In 1891 legendary director John Philip Sousa led the band's first concert tour, and for more than 100 years, the Marine Band has performed in communities large and small. Concerts offer a unique blend of traditional concert band and contemporary wind ensemble music for people of all ages and musical tastes. Admission is free however tickets can be reserved. Tickets will be limited to four per order, available beginning Monday, August 17 at 10 am. *Note: Seats must be taken by 7:15 pm the night of the performance or they will be released to walk-up patrons.
