Our Daily Bread Bakery & Bistro presents Jazz Night with the Albert Newberry Trio on Saturday, August 8, 2015. Albert Newberry was born in 1999 to a Russian mother and an American father. He has been studying classical piano for seven years and jazz improvisations for three years. Albert also plays xylophone, bells, and chimes for the school’s symphonic band. Among his favorite artists/composers are Herbie Hancock, Fats Waller, Charles Mingus, Dave Brubeck, George Gershwin, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Albert has started composing when he was ten and cannot imagine doing anything else. His piece, “Tritone Blues,” is one of the winners of the 2013 Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Award. Performance wise, he has won the 2014 Jazz Piano competition at WVU and was a finalist in the Classical as well. He also received an Honorable Mention in the 2014 Harold Protsman Classical Period Piano Competition.
