622 North welcomes The Strangled Darlings with special guest Urban Soil to the stage on Friday, March 20, 2015. Strangled Darlings brings a punk intensity to their live show. Taking a cello and making it a hip hop bass. Taking mandolin and slapping it like a stubborn mule. The Portland, Oregon based duo has been creating original tunes since 2009 and breaking the mold for what hipsters consider indie music. They bring a lyrical intelligence and political punch to songs that otherwise might have just been another break up song. Their song material focuses more on witchcraft in the Civil War, the morality of Somali piracy and the curse of Anna Nicole Smith's breast implants. The band has released three studio albums and a fourth is due out this spring. Their live show mixes technical mastery with deadpan humor and a little something to shake your rumpus. Front-woman Sarah Reinke brings her old-soul vocals to the stage and studio with passionate style. Rounding out her talents on guitar and washboard, Reinke pulls you in instantly. Guitarist and vocalist, Eric Chesson delivers forceful and driving components with every lick, and offers steadfast vocals. Greg Meckley’s skillful violin and mandolin playing blends tight layers and bright sounds that solidify the band smoothly against driving guitars. Holding down the rhythm section, Gabe Fawcett and Ben Hunter provide a concrete foundation on drums and bass respectively.
