Groundbreaking Celebration for Blacksburg Rescue Squad Station:

Date: October 25, 2014
Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Venue: Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad
Description: The Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad invites the public to a community event celebrating the groundbreaking of their new station on Saturday, October 25th from 10 am - 1 pm at the site of the new building on the corner of Patrick Henry Drive and Progress Street in Blacksburg, VA.

The celebration will include opportunities to explore ambulances and rescue trucks, tours of the new station layout, and children’s activities such as bouncy houses, coloring, and face painting. Additionally, Mayor Ron Rordam and other guests will speak during the event. Food will be provided by Hethwood Market.

Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad has been working with the Town of Blacksburg, WMA Architects, and Omega Construction to design their new station. Construction is set to begin this month. To mark the occasion, the rescue squad is hosting a groundbreaking event and inviting the community to attend.

Parking will be available next to the site, and the area is easily accessible by Blacksburg Transit using the University City Boulevard/Toms Creek B route. The rescue squad requests that attendees avoid parking in the adjacent neighborhoods.

“We’re looking forward to seeing people from throughout the community out here, and we’re excited about all the opportunities that our new facility will provide us to serve each of them,” said Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad Chief, John O’Shea.

During the ceremony, the rescue squad will kick off fundraising efforts to equip the new facility with furniture, training materials, and other equipment that will enable them to serve the community.
