Description: The New River Community College Fiddle, Banjo & Dance Club presents Whitetop Mountain and Truegrass in concert on Saturday, March 14th in Edwards Hall room 117.

The Whitetop Mountain Band is a family band from Whitetop, Virginia, that originated in the 1940’s and specializes in old-time fiddling and banjo picking. However, their performances are also noted for their versatility, often containing blues, classic country, and honky tonk pieces, in addition to traditional bluegrass.

The band has performed at square dances, festivals, and competitions throughout the United States and has performed internationally in the United Kingdom and Australia.

TrueGrass is a true traditional Bluegrass band. Their roots began as a group of friends just pickin' on Saturday nights at the Flatridge Community Center just for fun. What started just for fun turned into a Traditional Bluegrass Band in early 2004, with a style of their own.

Performing old traditional bluegrass tunes with a range of hard-driving energetic tunes to slow ballads and gospels as we know them from the Pioneers of Bluegrass such as Jimmy Martin, Flatt & Scruggs and others, with a strong emphasis on vocal harmony. TrueGrass has been performing at many venues in the Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and East Tennessee areas. TrueGrass incorporates musicians with many years of experience that bring a blend of traditional bluegrass alive that we all grew up with.
