Sustainability Week: Stadium Woods Invasive Plants Service Project:

Date: September 18, 2014
Time: 4:00 - 6:00 PM
Venue: Cranwell International Center (Virginia Tech)
Description: As part of Sustainability Week 2014, participate in the Stadium Woods Invasive Plants Service Project in the Stadium Woods on the campus of Virginia Tech on Thursday, September 18, 2014.

Join the Virginia Master Naturalists (VMN), VT Engage and VT & Blacksburg Sustainability Teams for an invasive species plant removal in VT’s rare old–growth urban forest. VMN’s have been diligently removing invasive plants in the woods for nearly two years. Their hard work is reaping many benefits including allowing White Oak saplings and native plants such as Snakeroot reemerge where Oriental Bittersweet and Multi–flora Rose once reigned. In May an amazing honey bee swarm was sighted! Connect with nature in Stadium Woods and support sustainable restoration of the old–growth forest.

Parking is available at the Cranwell Center.

Since 2007, the Town of Blacksburg has partnered with Sustainable Blacksburg and Virginia Tech to offer a week-long slate of events in mid-September giving town residents and university students lots of ways to "Celebrate - Educate - Motivate" around sustainability issues. Altogether, there will be 16 fun, informative, and inspiring events.
