As part of Sustainability Week 2014, participate in the Downtown Blacksburg Fundraiser for the Susang Garrison Sustainability Fund at businesses throughout Downtown Blacksburg on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. Susan Garrison, much–loved and admired Sustainability Manager for the Town of Blacksburg, passed away in February of 2013. A tireless environmental advocate, she helped establish Blacksburg’s first Sustainability Week, launched the community’s Climate Action Plan, and championed nearly all of the Town’s sustainability initiatives. On Wednesday, September 17th, if you shop or dine at one of the downtown establishments listed below, a percentage of sales for the day will go toward Susan’s Fund and will help us launch citizen-initiated projects that make Blacksburg a greener and more beautiful place to live, work, and play. Numerous businesses will be participating in downtown Blacksburg. To see the most up-to-date list of merchants, visit the link below. Since 2007, the Town of Blacksburg has partnered with Sustainable Blacksburg and Virginia Tech to offer a week-long slate of events in mid-September giving town residents and university students lots of ways to "Celebrate - Educate - Motivate" around sustainability issues. Altogether, there will be 16 fun, informative, and inspiring events.
