Blacksburg Data Science with R Meetup Data-thon!:

Date: September 17, 2014
Time: 6:00 - 8:00 PM
Venue: TechPad
Description: The Blacksburg Data Science with R Meetup Group presents their Data-thon on Wednesday, September 17th at TechPad.

Matthew A. Lanham will be presenting “Ensemble Modeling with R” at this month’s Meetup. The data set we'll be using is a simulated retail data set that resembles attributes from a similar product group. Our objective will be to try and classify SKU sellers from non-sellers for this one MPOG (a similar group of parts) using several machine learning algorithms. He will show how he cross validates these models, as well as discuss optimal decision cutoff threshold strategies for each model and how these should follow in line with the real business decision.

We will also employ various ensembling methods using all the generated models with the goal of trying to improve the overall accuracy while not necessarily focusing on sensitivity or specificity by themselves. The data set, code, and slides will be posted to his website http://www.MatthewALanham.com the day of the meeting for public use and he will provide a small prize to the Meetup participant who can achieve the best overall accuracy.
