Gillie's welcomes Trading Eights to the stage on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Trading Eights is bluesy/funky Jazz ensemble from Southwest Virignia featuring Amado Ohland on vocals. Good for dancing, good for listening. The phrases “trading eights,” “trading fours,” and “trading twos” refer to when jazz or blues soloists take turns improvising, each playing for eight, four, or two measures (or “bars”) at a time. For the musicians, it’s a fun chance to have a kind of musical conversation, listening to what other soloists have to “say” and reacting to it in the moment.
