Description: The Blue Ridge Music Center presents Big Country Bluegrass & The Wolfe Brothers String Band on Saturday, September 20th at 4 pm.

Tommy and Teresa Sells formed in the late 1980s, and the group's name comes from the instrumental "Big Country" that the late Jimmy Martin recorded many years ago. All band members live in and around the Virginia-Carolina Blue Ridge, and their music reflects much of the deep musical heritage found in this region which is at the heart of the Crooked Road Music Trail.

Tommy plays mandolin and does most Big Country Bluegrass of the emcee work while Teresa plays rhythm guitar, sings lead and the high harmony vocals. Eddie Gill handles most of the distinctive lead vocals and plays the guitar. Lynwood Lunsford, a former member of both Lost and Found and Jimmy Martin's Sunny Mountain Boys, plays banjo and also sings harmony for the group. Tony King of Galax, Virginia, plays the acoustic upright bass, and bluegrass veteran Tim Laughlin, of Bristol, Tennessee, plays fiddle and sings harmony with the band.

The recent success of Big Country Bluegrass on the bluegrass charts has helped spread the word about their traditional sound. Their current Rebel recording, Memories Of The Past, and it's title cut, "I'm Putting On Leaving Shoes" has garnered the prestigious # 1 spot on the Bluegrass Unlimited air-play chart.

Although The Wolfe Brothers String Band first formed during the mid 1970s, the group re-established their unique old time sound in the early 1990s. Featuring three vocalists, the band's repertoire ranges from rarely heard traditional songs and tunes to their own original material. Founding members Jerry Correll (fiddle) and Dale Morris (banjo, guitar) are joined by Casey Hash (guitar, accordion) and Donna Correll (bass). The Wolfe Brothers have played at many venues including Merlefest, the Carter Fold Festival, Floydfest, the Barter Theater, and the Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival. Bluegrass Unlimited featured an article about the group in their June '04 issue, and they have appeared on the acclaimed PBS television series, Song of the Mountains. They all reside in the Grayson County, Virginia, community of Elk Creek. The band has recorded five projects. The Wolfe Brothers String Band was named 2013 Appalachian Cultural Music Association (ACMA) Old Time Vocal Group of the Year.
