Sierra Hull (Band)

Biography:

Sierra Hull is a Bluegrass, Folk, Americana singer and songwriter based out of Nashville, TN.

A child prodigy, Sierra Hull began playing mandolin when she was eight years old after receiving one as a gift from her grandmother, and a year later she started playing guitar too. Born and raised in the small rural community of Byrdstown, TN, Hull was soon playing jam sessions and by 2001 she was entering local talent contests. Hull signed with Rounder Records when she was 13 years old.

Boston’s Berklee College of Music gave her the school’s most prestigious award, the Presidential Scholarship, a first for a bluegrass musician. Her latest album Daybreak is one of bluegrass’s few full-fledged virtuosic instrumentalist / singer / songwriters, and one who’s gracefully grown into her gifts. She’s already earned considerable respect in the bluegrass world, the IBMA’s voting members having nominated her for no fewer than five awards over three years — there’s a good chance she’ll be the first woman to win the mandolin category.

“She plays the mandolin with a degree of refined elegance and freedom that few have achieved,” says 15-time Grammy winner Bela Fleck, the genre-leaping banjo master.

Alison Krauss, who has won more Grammy awards than any female artist in history, says of Hull, “I think she’s endless. I don’t see any boundaries. Talent like hers is so rare, and I don’t think it stops. It’s round.”
